Veronica Lassenius, directora con experiencia en producciones animadas para las televisiones finlandesa y española (TV3), es la encargada de esta adaptación de dos cuentos de los Moomin, entrañables personajes creados por Tove Jansson y que parten de su colección homónima de cuentos infantiles ilustrados, aunque no es la primera vez que dan el salto a otros medios. En la década de los 90 se emitió en Televisión Española una serie de televisión de producción japonesa, holandesa y finlandesa protagonizada por estas adorables criaturas basadas en los trolls de la mitología escandinava. Los dos cuentos adaptados ahora nuevamente a la pantalla se han presentado en la edición de este año 2023 del Atlántida Mallorca Film Fest como un mediometraje, aunque ambos conforman dos cortos autoconclusivos e independientes. La fantástica biblioteca de los Moomin consta, pues, de dos historias: ¿Quién consolará a Chico? y El libro sobre Moomin, Mymble y Little My. Ambos relatos son una traslación prácticamente literal de los cuentos originales creados por Jansson, manteniendo su título, argumento, el estilo de dibujo y una narración en verso cuyas rimas también son adaptadas en el doblaje en castellano.
El primer corto, el de más duración, presenta rasgos estéticos y formales interesantes, utilizando colores oscuros y grises para representar visualmente los miedos infantiles a los que se tiene que enfrentar Chico (Knytt en la versión original), el personaje protagonista que también presenta una apariencia sombría. También predomina el gris y el negro en la Morra, el escalofriante monstruo antagonista de la historia. En ella se personalizan estos miedos que padece Chico, que no son otros que el terror a las nuevas experiencias y a entablar nuevas amistades. Los colores vivos se manifiestan cuando Chico logra vencer su timidez y conseguir los retos que se propone. Se trata de un relato sencillo pero muy didáctico, educativo y pedagógico para aquellos pequeños y pequeñas, que como Chico, a veces se crean incapaces de enfrentarse a las dificultades que pueden resultar la socialización y la realización de nuevas experiencias. De Chiquita, la otra protagonista, también hemos de extraer otra valiosa lección que no hemos de olvidar: Todos y todas, en ocasiones, nos vemos en la tesitura de pedir ayuda, y no hay nada malo en hacerlo. En definitiva, la gran enseñanza que los pequeños de la casa extraerán de esta historia es la conclusión de que la amistad siempre es más fuerte que el miedo.
El segundo cortometraje, de menor duración, quizás pueda resultar el más atractivo para los peques, con más personajes que toman partida en la narración, más dificultades y un viaje con más etapas, pero es menos complejo que el anterior en cuanto a sus enseñanzas, valores y reflexiones. Mantiene eso sí, la animación y la narración, así como el contraste entre secuencias con muchos colores y secuencias en blanco y negro en el que, de nuevo, se manifiestan los miedos infantiles. Al igual que en el texto original, la narración incorpora apelaciones al público: «¿Qué pasará a continuación?», como tienen lugar en el cuento ilustrado al final de cada página. Sin embargo, en el cortometraje suceden de manera tan repetida que pueden llegar a resultar algo cargante. También mantiene un rasgo curioso del cuento original, el cual incluye en cada página un pequeño orificio a través del cual se observa algún detalle de la página siguiente. De igual manera, el cortometraje añade vistazos a la siguiente secuencia en putos estratégicos de algunas escenas, además de detalles en el fondo que ayudan a los peques a poder adelantarse a la resolución del misterio.
En definitiva, se trata de dos cuentos pedagógicos que harán las delicias de los niños de preescolar, que son al ser en su esencia un cuento infantil trasladado casi de manera literal a la pantalla, en el que los textos son sustituidos por una «voz over» y las ilustraciones, siempre muy atractivas para los niños, son puestas en movimiento mediante la animación. La fantástica biblioteca de los Moomin está disponible en Filmin hasta el 25 de agosto de 2023.
